the last scene in The Graduate... they're on the bus, she's staring off into the camera at times smiling, at times blank and probably freaked out. This has been a strange year and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. Boredom is horrible but too much becomes tedious after a while also. To balance. To fonts and leading and kerning. To fun and ladders and corn.

friends post song lyrics and without the music, they don't always translate into greatness. not everyone can be a poet, like bob dylan. i just discovered Arcade Fire. I'm about a year late. ---- working weekend reminds me of the dotcom start-up days except instead of a full office, i'm one of the few which is actually fantastic. in april i'm buying a new computer. ---- last night i dreamt j. and i were at a cabin and outside, we saw saturn. it was big and orange and beautiful, trailing light along the water.
Wake Up
Somethin' filled up
my heart with nothin',
someone told me not to cry.
But now that I'm older,
my heart's colder,
and I can see that it's a lie.
Children wake up,
hold your mistake up,
before they turn the summer into dust.
If the children don't grow up,
our bodies get bigger but our hearts get torn up.
We're just a million little god's causin rain storms turnin' every good thing to rust.
I guess we'll just have to adjust.
With my lighnin' bolts a glowin'
I can see where I am goin' to be
when the reaper he reaches and touches my hand.
With my lighnin' bolts a glowin'
I can see where I am goin'
With my lighnin' bolts a glowin'
I can see where I am go-goin'
You better look out below!

"if you want your child to compete in skiing in the 2022 Winter Games, plan on spending $295,449. That includes $149,100 for private lessons, $114,000 for travel-related expenses - "by the time he's 14, he'll be jetting to Switzerland for summer competitions" - and $21,153 for clothing. Surprisingly, the equipment itself will set you back "only"$ll,196. ("His skis need to get longer, his boots bigger, and the bindings fitted as he grows.") Training a figure skater for the Olympics will cost you a bit less. The total for private lessons, travel, skates and clothes, including "a seamstress to sew thousands nf sequins into several costumes": $232,178." -- Parents Magazine

a good weekend so far, culminating in "the blizzard of 2006" and a working sunday. watched some of the Olympics and am amazed skiiers and lugers (sp) get speed up to 85+ miles per hour. -- how do you measure time? by dates, events, seasons, memories? i can't quite remember what we didn't do a year ago but this valentine's day, i'd love to engage in something non-commercial yet still "heart" focused. -- i need to buy: shoes, office boots, snow boots, pants, a new computer w/ a printer & scanner, a coffee table, 2 simple dining chairs, a comfortable lounge seat, eyeglass frames.

words like "brutal" sound like what they mean. this is cool (that's another one) and i wonder how much pure sound has influenced the development of languages. ----- i'm continually amazed by how quickly a life can change. sometimes it's for better, sometimes for worse. you just never ever know what is around the corner.
